Located in the vaulted Gothic cellars under Wawel, this modern interactive exhibit tells the story of Wawel Hill from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 20th century, focusing on the efforts to recover the Royal Castle from under Austrian occupation and the enormous restoration efforts that went into it afterwards. Incorporating multimedia displays, traditional works of art, architectural models, and large-scale illuminated reproductions of archival photographs, the exhibit explores Wawel as a powerful symbol of statehood that appears in Polish art, poetry, postcards, souvenirs and objects of daily use. Visitors will also see artistic and architectural visions for the redevelopment of Wawel by Stanisław Wyspiański, Wacław Szymanowski and Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz.

Average visiting time: 30mins.
