The lake was created when the River Sava was dammed to power the hydroelectric power plant in Medvode in 1953. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and numerous water activities are available, as well as a number of restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the views. The lake and its surrounding area also provides an important habitat to many species of birds and other wildlife.
