Come rain or shine, there’s one activity that thrills almost all of us whatever the weather, and that’s shopping. Ah yes, the simple pleasure of indulging yourself - or perhaps someone else - with a purchase or two. You might be seeking some retail therapy, looking for a trinket for your home or a new outfit for yourself, or perhaps you just enjoy browsing. Whatever brings you to the city shops you’ll soon find yourself in a particular store, but what is it about that store that lured you inside?

Ljubljana has seen a lot of movement over the last few years; business have changed hands, expanded, long established businesses are still doing a roaring trade, and several new ones are just getting settled in. With so much on offer to both visitors and locals how does one choose a favourite? Well, help is at hand from yours truly, the Ljubljana In Your Pocket editorial team devised 12 categories ranging from kids to cosmetics and food to jewellery, with two weeks of voting by our readers in May 2018. The winners and runners up were announced at a special event on 7 June. Congratulations to all the top finishers and a big thanks to everyone who voted and helped promote the competition!
