Greek Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord

This Greek Catholic church in Jarosław was established in 1717, when the then church brotherhoods of the Transfiguration (Spasa) and Epiphany received permission to build a new parish church dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus. Construction works were lengthy due to the lack of adequate funds. It was only thanks to a considerable sum of money donated for this purpose by the mayor of Jarosław, Eliasz Wapiński, that it was eventually completed in 1746. The new church was consecrated by the then bishop of Przemyśl, Onufry Szumlański, on August 17, 1747. Rebuilt in the years 1911-1912, the church is today a major pilgrimage site for Polish Uniates. In the church there is an icon of Our Lady of Jarosław, famous for its graces, called the Gate of Mercy. In 1996, the legate of Pope John Paul II, Achille Silvestrini, crowned her with papal crowns.
