Open-air Museum of Łowicz's Folk Culture

A 1.5hr drive north-east of Łódż (1.15h south-east of Warsaw), Łowicz's Folk Culture collection dates back to the 10th century, most notably with tools, pottery and millitary items that were excavated in nearby Skierniewickie. There is also a folk art department, with a huge collection of paper-based festivity costumes from the 19th and 20th century. The main draw, however, is the open-air ethnographic collection 7km away in Maurzyce, where 'architectural monuments' from the region have been reconstructed on these grounds in the oval spatial arrangement of a mid 19th-century old village. There is also a 'new village', based on the arrangement typical of the second half of the 20th century.
