Centre for Science & Technology EC1 hero image

Step by step, bit by bit over many years, EC1 has gradually come to life. Allusions to the Death Star were frequent for a long time, however, EC1 has steadily crept towards becoming fully operational. So, let the fun begin! The legacy of this once fully-operational power station (from 1907-2000) is ever-present, with giant machinery lying around, as well as original hardware that features prominently in the main exhibition 'Producing Energy'.

Centre for Science & Technology EC1

Here, the center takes you through the step by step process of how electricity is produced, from the coal arriving at the power station, right up until you switch on the kettle with the energy produced. Venture onward for the truly fascinating stuff - the intricacies of the universe, where you'll learn during the 'Micro World - Macro World' exhibition within the mightily impressive spherical 3D cinema. Yes, that big silver golf ball!

Entering feels like a mix between being Professor X entering Cerebro, or an excited contestant dashing into the Crystal Maze. Also check out the temporary exhibition 'Development of knowledge and Civilisations'. And on that note, remember the most important thing: have fun, and open your mind to the experience. Don't forget to check out the planetarium, also part of the EC1 complex. Visiting time: minimum 3 hours.
