Massolit Books & Café hero image

Arguably the best English-language bookstore in Central Europe, owing in large part to its unique cafe atmosphere. With books on all subjects and specialising in Polish, East European and Jewish literature in English, here you'll also find recent English language periodicals (store copies) to peruse over coffee and a slice of pie, or even a glass of wine. Stocked with remaindered books from the States, the selection is surprisingly good, and the prices are the best you'll find anywhere. This legendary establishment has been long-running but constantly needs and deserves support. Still if you're on a budget you can trade the novel you finished on the train for credit towards a new one. Also look for their American-style bakery nearby at ul. Smoleńsk 17 and bistro in Kazimierz.

Do not miss this outpost of publishing culture and English-language civilisation! Their collection of books is as enticing as their coffee and bagels. This little slice of San Francisco, Ann Arbor, Greenwich Village, Adams Morgan, Notting Hill or Wellington is just what you've missed about back home while hanging out on the continent.

I love, love, love this place! You can browse as long as you want in here with no-one breathing down your neck and forcing you to part with your money. The coffee and tea is reasonably priced and there's always somewhere to sit and enjoy your brew. They have the best selection of English language books on Eastern Europe (fiction and non-fiction) that you will find in Poland or elsewhere in this part of Europe and the prices restore your faith in mankind - words should not cost the earth and here they cost little more than gyros. Great!
