Formerly known as 'Alternatywny 4', we assume the numeral was dropped to appease a legal complaint related to the comedic Polish serial of the same name, which satirised the communist reality of the early '80s. Hardly as clever as its namesake, descend some of the most dangerous stairs in Kraków into this dark, sprawling student bar/club with little in the way of decor, save for a few edgy, urban art touches. There's certainly plenty of space here, including two bars, a large smoking section, a stage area in the back which seems to be collecting cobwebs and potentially two seasonal gardens (if they open them during the daylight hours). Once a subtly hip hangout, Alternatywy has mostly morphed into a nightclub where DJs drop beats for a young sloppy crowd in the front room, but generally there's little to distinguish this place from any other Cracovian cellar club.
