Plac Kobzdej is a small park area in the centre of Gdańsk, whose eastern edge is based on the remains of medieval city walls. In the past, it was part of the historic wood market, the area of which is known as Drzewòwi Tôrg in the local Kashubian language. It is believed that a mistranslation of this, interprited as Targ Truskawkowy in Polish is why it became known as 'Strawberry Market', or Erdbeermarkt during the city's Prussian period. It later earned its current name after the Gdańsk anti-communist activist Dariusz Kobzdej.
