It's doesn't get any more authentic than this family-run wine cellar found down a tiny side street in the sleepy old neighbourhood of Prule. Locals drop in for a glass and a chat from open till close each weekday, filling up their own bottles and jugs from one of a half dozen or so wines straight from barrel, which start from only €1.40 per litre. Produced in one of our favourite wine districts, the Vipava Valley in the west of Slovenia, if there's a better value drink in the city, we have yet to find it. For what it's worth, a glass or bottle (or more frequently a 5-litre jug) of Vipava's autochthonous Zelen variety is our drink of choice here.
