If you want to try great Polish food without eating in a medieval cellar or barnyard interior, then seek out Starka, whose classic, dark interior with its timber ceiling and bar crammed full of coloured bottles more resembles a 19th century pub, thanks in part to the caricatures by Heinrich Zille that cover the walls. Famed for its in-house flavoured vodka concoctions, you can't leave without trying a few, but be wary that you don't spoil your appetite. The menu of perfectly prepared Polish food ranges from handmade dumplings to smoked duck breast and is a great value for your money. With seasonal outdoor seating, subdued live music on Weds and Fri, and even some classy souvenirs you can take home, this is one of our favourite places in Kazimierz to recommend to visitors.

Great restaurant, fabulous mulled wine and great food. Friendly staff. We would stop off after a visit to the Market Square and have a couple of shots of vodka to keep the cold at bay
